ART - Application Realization Technique
ART is a practice framework for the delivery of Information
Technology Projects that achieve business goals. We categorize this collection
oftechniques as a practice framework rather than a methodology because of its prescriptive
characteristics. The concepts behind ART create a workable, high-visibility, high-touch
environment that energizes the project team. The most unique aspects of ART, the one's
that set it apart, the one's that deliver, are:
- ART is Prescriptive. ART makes use of established "best practices" that have a
proven track record for success in the appropriate circumstances. ART does not attempt to
reinvent the wheel needlessly, only to make a careful prescription of what practices to
use given the individual project's circumstances.
- ART uses a Realization Model. This establishes a fence line around everything concerned
with an iteration: its functionality and the resources required to deliver it. The purpose
is to illustrate dependencies in the work plan based on real living deliverables. This
promotes project manageability and visibility within the team.
- ART maintains High Visibility. Everything about ART facilitates communication. The work
is partitioned in unambiguous terms. Team members have a very clear appreciation for their
role, tasks, and most importantly, the reasons for them.
- ART is Achievement Oriented. If the end is always in sight, even if it is a minor
milestone, the team remains motivated. Everyone involved with the project sees value being
created at all times.
